The "Dead Boy" Leather

Back in the day this was my leather. I hand painted it... cut bones out of leather and had them sewed to the arms... customized it.... had fun wearing it for many years. But as time wore on.... I decided to pass the "Dead Boy" torch to a young friend. This was ages ago btw. He still has it. He wore the shit out of it for a long time too. Anyway I was thinking back about all the leathers that I painted for myself and others over the years and the old jacket crossed my mind.

Christie got 4 club level tickets for free via her employer. Very cool of them to do that. $300 per ticket. Not something we would really have been able to swing just for the hell of it. Anyway she and I had never been to a Saints game and other than going in the Dome for business I have never been there for an event as far as I can recall. Was cool to see Champions Square in full swing and of course the Dome renovations have that place looking top notch. Another bonus (not that I really care actually) was to see some of my bullshit booze advertising around Champions Square and inside the Dome. Oh well... looked good I guess. Pays the bills for now. Fun times that day. Also the fifty yard line would have split our seats in half if you visually followed the line up to where we were.

Mr. Bingle Xmas 2011

Mr. Bingle is an old New Orleans Christmas character. He was essentially an advertising mascot for one of the big department stores on Canal Street way back in the day. As a holiday icon he sort of transcended that and is still spotted here around the holidays. I saw a home on St. Charles our first year here that had a metal, hand painted Mr. Bingle hanging on its front door and I made a mental note to make some of those myself. Finally got around to it... but a bad cold stopped me from finishing before Xmas this year. I wrapped them up last week. Will give them to a few people. Only made 8 of them (and that was plenty.) The are hand cut out of aluminium flashing, hand painetd and then I added a two part epoxy finish to make them a little more durable. Really pretty simple... but the character was a pretty simple character.

Xmas party wrap up. So the "Westfeldt Bros. Inc." party that I attended with Christina Ford was very nice and I appreciated being invited even though I hate wearing the 'monkey suit'. Like Iggy, I go for jeans... like Rollins, I prefer the uniform of Black T. A) Private party room... full bar and wait staff. Very old New Orleans. B) Menu = Turtle Soup, Endive Salad, Filet or Fish/Shrimp, Banana Fosters. C) All of her coworkers and Mr. Westfeldt (boss) were very nice. Cool peeps. D) It occurs to me that white people at Xmas parties love them some skits and slide shows. FIN.

Sunday I pulled everything out of the Shed Bar, cleaned it up, sprayed for bugs, etc. Also added some more lights. Few more Xmas tree light strands on the outside and an LED on the far end. Will make grilling easier at night.

Gargoyle in the Tree

I put this small plaster gargoyle statue in the hollow of this tree in the neighborhood about a year and a half ago. You would never know it was there unless you pulled back the vines to see him. I check from time to time to see if he is still there. Well as you can see he is being slowly consumed by the tree... so he's there for good now.

I found this door laying next to a garbage can on Maple St. about a month ago. Painted it purple and set it in the alley. Yesterday afternoon I decided I was going to paint it. With no forthought or planning of any kind (because that bores me to tears honestly) I started illustration it. Going into it all I knew is that I wanted to do faces on each of the window panes. Anyway... was fun. And that's what it's supposed to be.
