I Don't Draw Enough

When I was a kid all I did was draw. No piece of paper was safe. All the way through High School and into my early twenties I drew and painted occasionally... but mostly drew. Then I decided to try to make a living with the only natural "talent" that I have, which is my artistic leanings and that's when the computers came onto the scene and slowly but surely picking up a pencil faded into the background. Oh sure there's the occasional story board, thumbnails and such, but those are quick bare bones things.

So while I had a few spare moments today I decided to just grab some paper and doodle the first thing that came to mind... and what came to mind was this flying eyeball. As a kid I was a lover of anything monster/creature/animal. I collected Wacky Packages and loved all the hotrod monster stuff that people like Ed Roth did. It really sort of solidified in my mind as a young child a love for that sort of thing. Of course as a kid skateboarding was a brand new thing but as it gained ground you'd start seeing stuff by people like Pushead and that sort of stuff in skate magazines and that was always cool. The flying eyeball is an old hotrod totem. I "think" Von Dutch was the first person to illustrate one. If he wasn't the first, then he certainly became known for his take on it. I think I'm going to pull that thing into Illustrator and clean it up. Maybe slap it on a black T-shirt. I'll throw the final graphic up when I get done with it.

I'm going to "try" to draw more. Stupid that I should get so rusty. Also dumb that something I enjoy so much tends to be something that I rarely do.

I really hear you. Even pen and ink, couldn't do it to save my life now. I promised myself a couple of years ago I was going to sketch something, anything each day. Ran across it when we were moving, had one sketch and 2 grocery list in it. Fight the resistance. Give me hope
