St. Alphonsus Church (A Happy Accident)

This past weekend (08.14.10) Christie and I decided to go hang out on Magazine St. We parked a block off by a couple of large old Catholic Churches. Specifically St. Alphonsus and St. Mary's. The former was the Irish church and the latter was the German church. This is located in the Irish Channel neighborhood. Anyway I had been told about these churches and how cool they were and how much I would love the artwork, etc. I pretty much let it go in one ear and out the other. So it was a pleasant surprise for us to literally stumble across them. St. Mary's was closed... but Alphonsus was open so we went in and checked it out. Stunning to say the least. You can read a little more about it here. You can also dig up other details and photos online too. Interesting factoid. This is where Anne Rice went to church and school as a child. Also her "The Witching Hour" books had portions set in the church.
